Green vitriol can be used in making water purifiers, iron salts, iron oxide pigments, mordants, preservatives, disinfectants, etc.
1: Water treatment agent
Industrial green vitriol heptahydrate is used to flocculate and purify water and remove phosphate from municipal and industrial wastewater to prevent eutrophication.
2:Reducing agent
A large amount of iron (ii) sulfate heptahydrate is used as reductant, mainly to reduce chromate in cement.
3:Medical
Green vitriol is used in the treatment of iron deficiency anemia; green vitriol is also used in food to add iron, long-term overuse may cause abdominal pain, nausea and other side effects.
Ferrous sulfate heptahydrate can also be used as a local astringent and blood tonic in medicine, and can be used for chronic bleeding caused by uterine leiomyoma.
4:Agriculture
FeSO4.7H2O for plants can regulate soil acidity and alkalinity, promote chlorophyll formation (also known as iron fertilizer), and prevent yellow disease caused by iron deficiency in flowers and trees. Agriculture use ferrous sulfate can also be used as a pesticide in agriculture to control wheat smut, apple and pear scab, fruit tree rot, and fertilizer to remove moss and lichen from the trunk.
5:Coloring agent

All iron sulfates dissolve in water to give the same aquo complex [Fe(H2O)6]2+, which has octahedral molecular geometry and is paramagnetic.
